Welcome to
CJ Moving Services LLC ("CJ Moving Services," "we," "our," or "us"). We are a fully licensed and insured moving company committed to providing professional, efficient, and transparent moving services across North Carolina.
By accessing our website, obtaining an estimate, or booking any moving, packing, or related service, you (the "Customer," "you," or "your") acknowledge and agree to be bound by the following Terms and Conditions. These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and CJ Moving Services LLC, a registered North Carolina company.
Business Name: CJ Moving Services LLC
USDOT License: #3477035
Primary Service Area: Durham, Cary, Apex, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and surrounding communities.
Our goal is to ensure full compliance with all North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) and U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) regulations while delivering excellence in every relocation.
2. Scope of Services and Service Limitations
CJ Moving Services LLC provides a comprehensive range of professional moving and related logistics services, which include, but are not limited to:
Local and Long-Distance Residential Moving: Full-service relocation for single-family homes, townhouses, condominiums, and apartments.
Commercial and Office Relocations: Specialized moving services designed to minimize business downtime for corporate, retail, medical, and office clients.
Professional Packing and Unpacking: Full or partial service options, including the supply of high-quality packing materials.
Loading and Unloading Labor: Assistance with portable storage units, rental trucks, or customer-owned containers.
Specialty Item Handling: Expert handling of pianos, large appliances, fragile antiques, sensitive electronics, and large furniture requiring disassembly/reassembly.
All services will be performed by trained, background-checked professionals using licensed, inspected, and insured vehicles appropriate for the scale of the move. We reserve the right to refuse service or renegotiate pricing if the scope of work significantly exceeds what was disclosed at the time of booking or involves dangerous/prohibited conditions.
3. Estimates, Quotes, and Final Pricing
All initial estimates provided by CJ Moving Services—whether generated by phone, email, or through our Smart Moving online booking system—are considered non-binding estimates unless explicitly agreed upon as a "Binding Not-to-Exceed Quote" in writing.
3.1. Non-Binding Estimates: A non-binding estimate provides an approximate cost based on the inventory and conditions described by the Customer. The final charges will be determined by the actual time and labor required to complete the move.
3.2. Factors Affecting Final Charges: The final charges may vary from the original estimate due to several factors, including:
Actual Hours Worked: The time clock starts upon arrival at the origin address and concludes upon the final placement of items at the destination.
Undisclosed Inventory: If the actual volume or weight of items exceeds 10% of the estimated volume.
Access Conditions: Difficult access (long carries, excessive stairs, lack of elevator access, complex parking restrictions, or difficult terrain) not disclosed upfront.
Additional Services: Any packing, disassembly, custom crating, or material usage requested or required on the moving day that was not included in the original estimate.
Transit Delays: Unforeseen circumstances like severe weather or traffic accidents that prolong the total job time.
3.3. Booking Confirmation and Deposit: A deposit, the amount of which will be specified at the time of booking, is required to secure your move date and time. This deposit is credited toward your total bill. Your move date is not confirmed until the deposit has been received and you have received a written Confirmation of Service from CJ Moving Services LLC.
4. Payment Terms and Financial Obligations
4.1. Payment Due Date: Full and final payment is due upon completion of services at the destination address unless a prior written agreement establishing credit terms has been executed.
4.2. Accepted Payment Methods: We accept the following forms of payment:
Major credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover).
Certified funds (money order, cashier's check).
Cash payments.
Pre-approved company checks (by management only).
4.3. Payment Disputes and Late Fees: Any declined credit card transactions, returned checks, or delayed payments may result in an administrative fee. Balances not paid within ten (10) business days of the move date may be subject to a late fee of 1.5% per month (or the maximum allowed by North Carolina law) and may be referred to a third-party collection agency, resulting in additional collection costs borne by the Customer.
5. Cancellations, Rescheduling, and Adjustments
We understand that moving plans sometimes change. Our policy is designed to balance flexibility for the Customer with resource management for our crews.
Cancellations made 48+ hours before your scheduled move time will receive a full refund of the deposit.
Cancellations made within 48 hours of the scheduled move may result in a 50% cancellation fee (calculated based on the non-refundable portion of the deposit or a pre-determined minimum charge), as this time slot is difficult to rebook.
Rescheduling is free of charge when requested at least 24 hours in advance, provided the desired new date and time are available.
If rescheduling is requested within 24 hours of the move time, a short-notice fee may apply, but we will make every effort to accommodate your needs without penalty.
6. Customer Responsibilities and Preparation
The efficiency and safety of your move depend heavily on proper customer preparation. The Customer agrees to the following responsibilities:
Access and Conditions: Ensure safe, legal, and clear access (including snow removal, clear walkways) for the moving truck and crew at both the origin and destination.
Disclosure: Inform us immediately about any unusual or difficult access conditions, including oversized or extremely fragile items, complex furniture requiring specialty disassembly, or long walking distances from the truck to the door.
Securing Valuables: The Customer is solely responsible for safely securing all valuables, including, but not limited to, cash, jewelry, heirlooms, negotiable papers, medical records, firearms, and important documents. These items should be transported personally by the Customer.
Presence of Customer: The Customer or an authorized representative (aged 18 or older) must be present during the entire process (loading, transport, and unloading) to direct the crew and sign the final paperwork and inspection.
Hazardous Materials: Failure to disclose and remove hazardous or restricted materials before the move may void liability coverage and result in the immediate termination of services.
7. Liability and Valuation Coverage
CJ Moving Services LLC operates in full compliance with state and federal requirements for cargo insurance and liability coverage.
7.1. Standard Liability Coverage: Our liability is governed by federal law and is offered at the federally mandated rate of $0.60 per pound, per article, at no additional charge. This coverage applies only to items handled by our crew and does not constitute full-value insurance.
7.2. Purchased Full-Value Protection: If you require coverage greater than the standard $0.60 per pound, you must request and purchase additional insurance (Full-Value Protection) before the start of the move. CJ Moving Services LLC must receive confirmation and payment for this additional protection prior to service delivery.
7.3. Exclusions from Liability: CJ Moving Services LLC is not liable for the following, under any coverage option:
Items packed by the Customer (PBO - Packed By Owner).
Mechanical or electrical derangement of electronic equipment unless there is evidence of physical damage to the exterior.
Normal wear and tear, marring, scuffing, or denting of surfaces during handling.
Pre-existing damage to furniture, antiques, or items deemed inherently unstable or defective.
Damage to floors, walls, or property where the Customer requested or insisted on maneuvering furniture in a manner deemed unsafe by the Crew Leader.
Loss or damage caused by Acts of God, weather, traffic, or other unforeseen circumstances outside of our direct control.
8. Claims and Dispute Resolution
8.1. Submission of Claims: All claims for loss or damage must be submitted in writing to CJ Moving Services LLC within seven (7) calendar days following your move date. This is a strict requirement for claim validation.
Your written claim must include:
Clear Photos of the damage.
A detailed written description of the issue and the item(s) affected.
The date of your move and the Crew Leader’s name (if known).
A copy of the signed Bill of Lading (final paperwork).
8.2. Claims Review Process: Claims are typically reviewed within ten (10) business days of receipt. If validated, the resolution (repair, replacement, or partial reimbursement) will be offered based on the item's valuation and the level of liability coverage selected by the Customer.
9. Prohibited Items and Materials
For the safety of our crew, the security of our equipment, and compliance with federal law, we cannot transport or accept liability for the following items:
Hazardous or flammable materials (e.g., gasoline, propane, paint, aerosols).
Explosives, ammunition, or firearms.
Chemicals or toxic cleaning agents.
Perishable food items that are not properly secured and insulated.
Live plants or animals.
High-Value Items: Cash, coin collections, jewelry, fine art, or collectibles. These must be transported by the Customer.
